Introduction

 NOW everything is prepared

  • install ESXI on Production and DR site
  • install vcenter on Production and DR  site
  •  install SRM on Production and DR  site
  • install  VRA [vSphere Replication ] on Production and DR  site
  • create inventory mapping with 5 aspects [network , resources , folder , placeholder , and storage policy ]
  • create recovery plan
  • create protection group

so what is the next

the next is Nothing  but to : configure  replication manually for VM that you would like to protect

we have VM called VM102 with windows 10 installed at ESXI-prod-151 at production site

we will protect this VM by sending image image to DR site

let us go

Configure VM Replication

To configure the recovery replication :

Login to your Protected site vCenter server VCSA-prod-155  using vSphere web client.

https://vcsa-prod-155.pioneers.lab/

Click on SRM plugin ->> site recovery > open pairing details

>  Select replication

open vcenter > site recovery
open pairing details
selct replication > outgoing > new
select VM that you would like to replicate : we will select VM102 [we beilieve that VM102 has added value to our business ]
select VRA on DR site
where VM will be synchronized : we recommend to use shared datastore rather than local datastore
keep these settings as default or adjust asper your preference
ad VM to protection gorup
review and finish
settings are configured
replication enabled
configuration done and synchronizing VM also

how to verify VM replication

there is two ways to verify successful VM replication

the first on is just open vcenter at DR site

https://VCSA-DR-185.pioneers.lab

then we will see new VM has been added

also we can browse datasstore at DR site : and we will see newVM files (.vmdk)

open vcenter at DR site > new VM added > but there is NO network assigned which is required > since VM is in passive mode
also new VM files have been transferred to DR site

Conclusion

VM replication is the last step : which concern of to protect any VM you believe that could be added value to your business

any VM out of replication is vulnerable to single point of failure in case there is any disaster happen to your production site

the next article we will discuss how to test disaster recovery and how to clean our test
