in previous articles we have installed SRM on Production Site and verify installation
in this article we will see how to install SRM on DR site and how to make pairing between two sites
network Diagram
as you see in network diagram above : SRM will be installed on windows 2016 server with the following specifications :
SRM server
- Name SRM-DR-186
- RAM 4 GB , CPU 2
- Management IP address : 172.30.100.186 with default gateway 172.30.100.11
- Windows 2016 serve
SRM installation on DR site
run the installation process then follow wizard :
Verify SRM installation
we can verify if SRM installed successfully by two methods :
open console services.msc : we will see SRM services
also we can open VCenter management

then we will see new plugin added called site recovery which will be used to connect [pairing] to VCSA at DR site
Site pairing
since we are going to protect VMs in Production site : then Production site is called Protected Site
now open vCenter at Production site https://https://vcsa-prod-155.pioneers.lab/ >> select home >> site recovery >> new site pairing >> then provide name > and follow wizard
Conclusion
we hae seen how to install SRM on both site and how to make simple pairing between two sites
we have mentioned before that SRM is NO more than orchestrator ,
SRM will utilize another software to male replication between two sites which could be one of :
- SRA Storage replication adapter : used to replicate whole storage datastore
- VRA vsphere replication appliance : good to replicate single or multiple VM [replication based on VM NOT storage ]
in this course we will focus first on how replicate using VRA
