MIP : Communication Compliance Concepts

Microsoft 365 Security

introduction

The old technique with exchange on premise server and cloud office 365 was moderated transport which :

  • Implemented on mail box distribution group or as mail flow rule
  • Message is held until be approved or rejected by nominated moderator for example : is sales person send quotation to customer then email will NOT be sent until approved or rejected by like sale manager
  • Has approach (ALL or nothing ) meaning it will be applied to group member on NON
  • Moderated transport has limitation :
  • Email delivery is delayed
  • The ONLY choice is approve ot reject
  • NO records for why email approved or rejected with compromise governance policy
  • NO reporting about approved or rejected email

the solution

Supervisory review is The revolutionary technique and alternative of moderated transport

Supervisory review has the following features:

  • Policy-based approach
  • Could target email content
  • NO interruption for email delivery : just send copy to review and email sent to recipient
  • Supervisory review license
  • Each Reviewer need license
  • is included in MS365 E5  [office E5]  license or could be purchased individually [advanced Data Governance License ]

Continues improvement

  • Following the February 2020 release of communication compliance in the Microsoft 365 compliance center SCC , supervision in the Office 365 Security & Compliance Center is being retired.
  • Starting June 15th, you will no longer be able to create supervision policies. On October 26th, any existing supervision policies will be removed.
  • Again supervision retired 🙁
  • We actively encourage customers who are currently exploring or using Supervision in Office 365 to use the new communication compliance solution to address your communications monitoring or regulatory requirements with a much richer set of intelligent capabilities.
